The 1950's saw a world largely recovered from WWII and in the grip of the Cold War. The Cuban Revolution, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro were in the news, as was the launch of the sputnik, the first official space satellite to orbit the Earth. The emergence of Rock n' Roll brought wild new artists list Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochrane and the unforgettable Elvis Presley, and on 3rd February 1959, a chartered plan transporting the three American rock and roll musicians Buddy, Ritchie Valens and J.P "The Big Bopper" Richardson went down in foggy conditions near Clear Lake, Iowa, killing all four occupants on board. The tragedy is later named "The Day Music Died", popularized in Don McLean's 1972 song "American Pie".
