💡 Did You Know?
In her 2001 autobiography "Memoirs of an Unfit Mother", Anne Robinson alleged that previous presenter Barry Took had begun to be regarded as "old hat" by BBC management:
"BBC bosses had had enough of Took, a well-known scriptwriter now in his sixties. His style was jokey. Viewers would pose questions in their letters, read out by a "voice," and Barry would shrug his shoulders and say cheerfully, without giving any particular answer, something along the lines of "hey ho, and on to the next letter." A sharper approach was more in keeping with the times. By November I was offered the job. It meant a weekly program (sic) with as many as nine million viewers."
