I&apos;m also unsure why, when the rich man orders the woman out of his home -- after, presumably, having had his wicked way with her -- she is wearing a long, white dress, but when she arrives at her house, she&apos;s wearing a darker one.

The acting is grand and dramatic, with &quot;Go and never darken my doorstep again!&quot; gestures. It is, in short, a poorly directed movie, even when considered against the backdrop of movie-making in 1906. Title cards might have helped, if only to inform the audience of what was happening, but not enough to render this particularly cinematic.
