An accomplished musician in real life, Thomas Stipsits wrote the birthday song, which his character Andy sings for the young policeman Georg, himself. Director Josef Hader thought that the initial version sounded "far too good", so he and Stipsits worked together on downgrading the song to a rendition more "inferior and jarring", better fitting the inebriated character.
