The film was inspired by director Phoenix Frost's experience with his great-grandfather's dementia. He chose to make it about the main character's grandfather to make it more relatable. On set, Frost had to explain that his grandfather was alive and well. Unfortunately, Frost's grandfather unexpectedly passed away a week before the film's first public screening at The Newcastle International Film Festival.
