Rakt tilak is a story centred around a village boy Bansi, living with his mother and grandfather. They have a goat along with her two kids that Bansi is very attached to. There is an old ritual, that is being followed till this day in Maithili tradition, during Durga Puja goats and buffaloes are sacrificed in the name of goddess as a token of devotion. For this reason, the goat gets sold to a fellow villager by Bansi's grandfather. When Bansi gets to know this, he gets upset and his grandfather consoles him saying that the goat is his and will be sacrificed to the goddesses during the Durga Puja fair. Bansi's innocent mind comprehends this information as a festival for the goat and enthusiastically decorates her with a garland after bathing her. At the fair he sees thousands of goats being sacrificed along with his own. The deep impact of this event is what has been tried to convey through this short film. This film has been made in Maithili language. Maithili is the main language spoken by the folks of Bihar and Nepal. The film's first screening was done at press club of India, New Delhi. MP and environmentalist Menka Gandhi, Congress leader ranjita ranjan, media personnel and country scholars were present at the event. This short film was premiered at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Koshi film festival and as well as at the New York Film festival.
