"The rise of a jazz band, from playing at a small time club to receiving royal approval, and playing at The Imperial. It's an incredibly good start, I adore everything penned by Stephen Poliakoff, but this is magical. It subtly shows us the British class system, and just how tough it would have been for anyone of colour. Racism isn't always in the form of physical or verbal abuse, it can be way more subtle than that, this shows us exactly what forms it can take.
