Your Excellency, Paralympians, Friends from all over the world, Kalispera! - Good evening! Tonight should have been a night for celebration. Millions of people around the world have experienced 11 days of exceptional Paralympic sport. The children of Greece, especially, have learned firsthand the meaning of "Paralympic Spirit". It is their infectious enthusiasm and open-mindedness that motivate the world to embrace tolerance and change. They are the messengers of a better world. This simple truth magnifies the tragedy that has befallen their families and friends. Tonight we mourn their loss and dedicate, to these young people, the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. This is a very emotional moment. Soon it will be time to say 'Farewell', but first allow me a few words of appreciation. Thank you to Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki and the ATHOC organization. Your efforts and co-operation have made these Paralympic Games unique. To all Athenians and people of Greece, your passion, your friendliness and hospitality, will travel on, way beyond tonight. Continue to carry that sparkle in your eyes and keep the flame burning in your hearts. Thank you athletes. Your performances were incredible. You have raised your sports to a new level. I am so proud of you. When you leave here, take the spirit of Athens with you and inspire young athletes all over the world. Thank you to sports officials and all other members of the Paralympic family. You have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of these Games. Finally, thank you to the remarkable volunteers. Your smiles have reflected the dedication felt deep within your hearts towards the Paralympic Games. Over the last 11 days, Greece has shown how its rich heritage goes hand in hand with a dynamic and modern society. Since ATHOC commenced its epic journey, I have witnessed how the ancient Greek values of sport and culture are the true foundations of the Paralympic movement. Greece, you have demonstrated to the world how sport and life can come together in friendly and peaceful competitive harmony. Since I was elected President of the International Paralympic Committee here in Athens, we have all embarked on a journey of discovery and change. Tonight, in this beautiful Stadium, we are unveiling to the world the new logo of the International Paralympic Committee, which symbolizes "Spirit in Motion". Finally, the time has now come for me to declare the 12th Paralympic Games closed. The 13th Paralympic Games will be held in Beijing, China. Paralympic athletes, I invite you to Beijing, where once again, you will inspire and excite the world with your sporting excellence.
