Lou Diamond Phillips has since become a longtime friend and avid supporter of Amado's Art Has Heart Foundation at its annual fund-raiser since 2000 funding over 500 college scholarships to deserving young students from families of low to moderate incomes, single parents, pueblos and households with English as a second language from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Colorado and the southwest.
