"Exploitative and disgusting, Black Metal Veins is in no way an anti-drug film. It is just Lucifer Valentine using addicts to fuel his own horrific desires and to earn him money for the privilege. Just as messed up as anything else he did. If he actually wanted to represent the real challenges of addiction, he wouldn't have loaded the film with mindless fabricated shock value. Bleak...."

Most of the footage in this documentary is believed by many to have been staged or set-up by the director in some way, with the only possible exception being that the drug abuse was all probably real. Raven's death at the end of the film is widely believed to be fake owing to the unconvincing execution of the scene. The director confirmed on the DVD commentary that Raven didn't really die.
