"It didn't even get made did it? I'm not sure how this many people managed to see this in order to create a rating out of 10. I agree this is a shame it never got to air. Everything that Milch made was great in my opinion. Maybe in the streaming world there would be enough money around to create something like this. Wasn't 1923 one of the most expensive shows per episode that got made recently? I reckon Luck cost a few quid to make as well. I remember at the time that a lot of animals died during filming and this was one of the reasons the production was shut down. But I thin..."

While most observers felt that HBO decided to suddenly cancel the show before its promised 2nd season was due to the deaths of horses on the set, Richard Kind told the AV Club when he was interviewed for their "Random Roles" series that this was false and the show was nixed because of the terrible relationship between David Milch and Michael Mann. When Nick Nolte was also interviewed for Random Roles, he was asked about Kind's theory, and he responded "Yeah. I think he's absolutely right."
