The Stalking was inspired by the killer sunflower plant story "The Bad Flower", which was part of filmmaker Jeff Kirkendall's 2018 anthology movie Halloween Horror Tales. Additionally, it is a follow-up of sorts to the 2009 Polonia Bros. Entertainment film HalloweeNight, which also features a killer scarecrow.
