Liane, 19, lives with her mother and sister in Fréjus in the south of France. Consumed by aspirations of beauty and stardom, she auditions for a reality show called &quot;Miracle Island.&quot;

Ambitious but falling flat

The Côte d&apos;Azur is a wonderful playground for the rich and famous. When you look at our main character, Liane, you know that her apartment does not have an ocean view. She lives with her mother and younger sister in a bad part of town, her trashy looks and attitude fitting in perfectly. She doesn&apos;t seem to have an education, doesn&apos;t know what to do with her life other than becoming famous and loved by thousands of followers on Instagram. So she applies to take part in a reality show and hopes that her dreams finally come true. In the meantime we see her stealing clothes and hanging around with her clique and becoming the love interest of a decent guy who could be some sort of orientation for Liane. But she doesn&apos;t really get it. French films are often raw, this one here is no different. But somehow it&apos;s too tamed, Liane&apos;s conflicts seem rather textbook and so this whole film is more like a student&apos;s product of first semesters of sociology than a serious film product. I&apos;m not saying that it&apos;s really bad but it isn&apos;t good, either. The acting is shaky, the solo cello accompanying Leila&apos;s drifting is rather annoying and very 90&apos;s and the whole film has the appeal of being rather 30 years old.
