A documentary telling the story of Mr. Paul, who suffers from worsening Alzheimer's-type dementia. He wishes to die while he still recognizes his wife, Marjan, and his home, so he decides to end his life early. Marjan struggles with his decision but understands it. Although Dutch law allows doctors some leeway to fulfill such requests, Paul's doctor refuses to help, claiming he doesn't meet the criteria. Paul takes matters into his own hands, gathering information with Marjan, speaking with experts, and obtaining the necessary pills. Finally, he chooses a date. Every detail is clear. Friends are informed, and he says goodbye to his loved ones. With Marjan and their children, he shares a final glass of red wine in the marital bedroom.
