King Alfred's Burnt Oatcakes were less of a disaster
by ShillingSide2025-09-05

"This has SUCH promise but it gets so much of the history wrong... "Braveheart" levels of timeline twisting. Showing characters who literally couldn't speak English as speaking it. And I'm sorry but despite all wishful thinking these days, there WERE no African warriors fighting in the Anglo Saxon army. Worth a watch if you're sick or snowed in and need something to binge without having to spend any time THINKING...."

💡 Did You Know?

Even though William was the victor and the current Royal family can trace their ancestry to him through the Plantagenets, Tudors Stuart's and Hanovers they also are direct descendants of Harold Godwinson as well. Through Harold's daughter who married the Crown Prince of Kiev, his line continued to Philippa of Hainault the wife of Edward III (Edward of Windsor). So, every King and Queen since their children have been his descendants as well.
