Video game released for PC and Playstation 2 based on the classic television show Knight Rider (1982)

Much better controls, but very short.

I&apos;d been reading some reviews recently about this game and was puzzled why nobody had mentioned it was a lot better than the first game - at least that&apos;s how I remembered it. Now after replaying the first game on PS2 instead of the PC version I played years ago, I quickly figured out why the original had a poor rating on PS2 compared to the much better PC version. I&apos;ve now checked out the second game on PS2 for the first time, and I&apos;m not sure what all the negativity was about. Other than being much shorter than the first, many of the flaws have been improved greatly and it actually works - unlike the bugs in the first game that made the PS2 version almost unplayable.

Michael and KITT are back, starting with a little video showing the finale of the first game, stating that was two years ago. Now Garth, Goliath, and KARR are back, building an army of ED-209 meets Johnny 5 robots while in possession of a super laser and a rocket they intend to devastate the world with. It&apos;s up to Michael and KITT to save the day as usual.

The game plays much like the original, but KITT is easier to keep on the road and has three new weapons to choose at will: rockets, a plasma gun, and a laser. The plasma seems useless and unnecessary, but KITT still has the classic turbo boost, ski-mode, and SPM - all with a different control scheme than the first game, but it doesn&apos;t take long to get used to.

Graphically, the game is the same. KITT still looks more like a Corvette than an &apos;82 Trans-Am, and the same uncharismatic voice actors deliver a stale performance.

The controls this time around are how the first game should&apos;ve been, but the lack of levels makes this game very short. It has just as much replay value as the first - which is zilch. You unlock each level when you complete it if you want to replay later, but I don&apos;t see anyone actually doing that.

The whole disc is roughly 500MB, just like the original, which shows the devs were being pretty lazy and just getting a licensed KR game out as quickly as possible. I&apos;m convinced nobody tested the first game, as it was full of bugs requiring a reset to start again. But they seem to have learned from mistakes here, as this one played perfectly fine from start to finish.

The only unlockables besides pointless level replays are pointless videos from the TV show showing a few of KITT&apos;s abilities. Videos like that were a sign of the times - a fad well and truly buried unless it&apos;s a full feature movie or something. But considering the game is 500MB, it&apos;s probably a safe bet the actual game is about 250MB with an additional 250MB of uncompressed videos.

Had the game been a success, I&apos;m sure a re-release or classic edition would&apos;ve combined this as an extension of the first game, making it one continuous adventure. But the sloppy, stiff, and horrible controls of the original game would&apos;ve needed to be as they are here - so why would the devs or anyone else bother? It&apos;d still be the same games that are okay to play once, but once completed, have zero replay factor.

A remake? Nah. Most Knight Rider fans will tell you these two games are the best video games as far as licensing goes - but that&apos;s only because only about four exist. The NES version was just a Rad Racer clone, and the Amiga version or whatever it was is nothing to kick yourself over never playing. The consensus is mods added to GTA games to include KITT are the way to go.

Had this game had more than 10 or so missions, it might&apos;ve fared better. But it really should&apos;ve been a game that, when completed, the devs apologize for the first version and unlock the original game with the new control scheme from this one. That never happened, hence making these two games pretty disappointing once completed. They came out in 2002 and 2004, and it&apos;s taken me 20 years to bother returning to see what the PS2 versions were like compared to the PC ones - and all I can say is, they seem to just be the exact same with this second version.

Only a Knight Rider fan who has never played the game would have any interest in checking this game out now. It contains nothing that would lure any new fans, there is nothing special or even a &quot;classic&quot; moment, and as I&apos;ve said a hundred times already, 0 replay value.
