"First I must admit that this film is not everyone's cup of tea. Having Said that, the film displays strong Finnish emotions and has a good albeit not always accurate historical narrative. All in all this is a very entertaining movie where nature and elements are always strongly present. Eg. Water is cold but forever refreshing and healing. Battle scenes are done with taste and good brutalism as can be seen from many 1v3 or 1v4 skirmishes. I enjoyed it and hope you Will too...."

The film is based on the section about Kullervo's character in "The Kalevala", the Finnish epic poem compiled by Elias Lönnrot. The story of Kullervo has served as inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien in his story "The Children of Húrin", which is part of the Middle-Earth legendarium.
