Hanna is home alone on a bright summer day when she hears the sound of a harmonica playing. She walks to the front of the house and sees a young boy playing the harmonica, he waves at her and she quickly runs back to her house. She realizes she left the living room door open and searches for her cat Leo. Upon releasing she has lost her cat, she walks out of the house and down the driveway. She hears sounds coming from a bush and investigates it, a hand painted blue pops out from the bush, scaring her; where she then runs off to another neighborhood. She finds a cat collar on the ground below her. Hanna walks by two elders who are staring at her intensely, when she turns and looks back at them, they have disappeared. Hanna runs off and walks into a forest. She meets a young girl with her face painted yellow and green who cannot move. The young girl convinces Hanna to paint a portrait of her in order to free her from her statue. Hanna paints the portrait and is tricked, now being frozen in time while the young lady runs away freely. The same young boy seen previously is walking through a forest, he finds Hanna and breaks the fourth wall, explaining to her that she is in a movie and that she can free herself by simply acknowledging herself as an actor. We CUT BACK to her house, where her two parents have arrived back home and are deciding to tell Hanna that they are going to divorce. The mom begins to cry after seeing a portrait of Hanna and the father searches for Hanna around the house to then realize she is not home. Hanna wakes up and walks down a hill where she sees her mother and father, played by the same actors, dressed in Napoleon era costumes. The mother and father are fighting and the woman reveals that she is in love with another man. He tries to give her a final poem for her to read but she walks off. The man explains to Hanna that he has seen her cat, but he requests that she give the woman, who's name is Shaily, his final poem before she searches for her cat. Hanna gives Shaily a love poem and Shaily runs back to the man to confess her love for him, the man has turned into a skeleton and Shaily cries over his dead body. A clap board comes into frame and the director, once again, breaks the fourth wall. Hanna wakes up in the same forest and sees a clone of herself sitting alone on a log. She speaks to her clone, and the clone of Hanna explains that she is unhappy about her parents divorce and that she feels it is all her fault. The two have an emotional dialogue and the film shows a flashback to when Hanna was a little girl. Hanna then wakes up and finds her cat in her mailbox, she grabs Leo and walks up the driveway smiling. As she gets home, her parents sit her down and tell her that they are getting a divorce, the camera pans away.
