In the Alps, one of the most extreme habitats in Central Europe, every day is a new battle for survival. And it is precisely where there is no real summer that the ptarmigan, marmot and ibex live. In the high mountains, the food supply is usually very poor, and life is full of deprivation and dangerous. Snow, ice, wind and cold take their toll on the animals. They have to cope with the large temperature fluctuations and the short growing season, as well as the strong UV radiation and the difficult terrain. Often there is only two to three months to reproduce and prepare for the long winter. But these animals have adapted to the harsh environmental conditions. The thick fur of the ibex and marmot provides excellent insulation against wind and cold, and the ptarmigan, as a master of camouflage, is almost dependent on the snow. Depending on the season, its plumage changes color and thus adapts to the environment. In winter, the snow-white plumage protects against its main enemy, the golden eagle. The documentary shows the tricks and strategies these three specialists use to master the high alpine challenges in the German part of the Alps and how they are coping with the recent, dramatic change in their habitat - climate change. There are winners and losers. An unusually close camera work gives viewers unprecedented insights into the events, be it fighting marmots or the ibex rut.
