Season Two Review

I really liked the first season of Bridget Christie&apos;s &quot;The Change&quot; and was looking forward to the second. Though, perhaps, I don&apos;t feel it&apos;s quite a strong, it&apos;s still a very funny and often touching show.

With the truth of her circumstances revealed to the rest of the town, Linda (Bridget Christie) is put on &apos;trial&apos;. During the proceedings she explains about the ledger she kept of unpaid chores that she undertook, and the idea takes hold with the rest of the women. This infuriates The Verderer (Jim Howick) further, who uses his radio show to castigate them, and Linda in particular. Siobhain (Liza Tarbuck) gets an unwelcome surprise at home, so decides to take her own voyage of discovery.

When I say that I didn&apos;t think this series was quite as strong, I think it&apos;s perhaps because it has a wider focus and isn&apos;t just telling Linda&apos;s story anymore. Indeed, there isn&apos;t really much progression in Linda&apos;s story at all, which does make sense, given what I imagine the timescale of the series to be (maybe a couple of weeks?). That though doesn&apos;t perhaps tie in with her husband, Steve, played by Omid Djalili, going for the full Turkish body mods &quot;upgrade&quot;. Monica Dolan unfortunately doesn&apos;t seem to have been available for this run, so she&apos;s replaced by Laura Checkley, playing a third Eel sister, Theresa.

But I don&apos;t need this review to sound too critical of what is again a heartfelt, but very funny series. That manoeuvres deftly through a number of potentially divisive topics without ever feeling patronising or lecturing. Given how the season ends, I&apos;d say we&apos;re perhaps unlikely to see a third season as it resolves a number of issues, then leaves on a final scene that would change the dynamics dramatically. I&apos;d be happy to be proven wrong though.
