Stories on the Skin: Tattoo Culture at FAU
The film takes place at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, and documents the creative collaboration between The Jaffe Center for Book Arts and Dr. Karen Leader, Department of Visual Arts and Art History. Faculty and students explore tattoos as books on the body, with stories worth telling in both word and image. The project approaches the practice of tattooing as a living art, a form of creative self- expression that permanently fixes important memories on the body. Our focus is on a visual medium, the tattoo, which, through interpretation and performance, will offer a deeper understanding of the artful presentation of the self to the world, a book worth reading.
