The Story of Table Hockey is a film that documents the origins and storied history of the iconic board game, and the fans of the sport that have kept it alive and well until today. The narrator will take the viewer through 80 plus years of table hockey, using current interviews and archival footage of the world's fastest and most realistic board sport. No other board game captures the essence of the sport it mimics like table hockey does for ice hockey. First invented during the Great Depression as a cheap source of entertainment for his children in Burlington, Ontario, Donald Munro's simple game would soon become a staple of the Eaton's Christmas catalogue for over 20 years. A Swedish firm developed a slotted game, which freed up the players to move up and down the ice like real players - unlike the fixed pegs on the Munro game. Out of Montreal came Eagle Toys (bought later by Coleco), whose bold president Ben Stein secured NHL licensing for their games, bringing a whole new dimension to the game: collectability.
