The ending is unearned
"This episode is meant to be a supernatural riff on the aged fighter who gets redeemed. This trope probably was first seen in Requiem for Heavy Weight from the 40's but it pops up again, and again. The Wrestler also comes to mind. The bones of such are story are here but the script doesn't do enough to make Lawless redeemable. So the story feels incomplete...."
