Nexus Expedition was never meant to be a film, nor yet a global expedition when Dimitri set out to walk the 1000 mile "Iditarod Trail", but once he was able to complete it and crossed the Bering Strait sea ice on foot in company of Karl Bushby, he pondered: "Now, that this, one of the hardest sections of a human-powered circumnavigation of the globe has been accomplished, why not continue?"

The potential for a successful circumnavigation was clearly evident in the strength and depth of Dimitri's character.

The hardest part wasn't over. Dimitri is self-filming, under some of the harshest conditions on the planet. Surviving the expedition, let alone, filming it, were daily concerns. Surviving the edit was ours.

He couldn't help capturing his own love, loss, and tragedy. Looking to meet humanity he found his own human experiences.

This became an expedition in filming and editing with the expedition becoming Dimitri's life pursuit, allowing Vivienne Smith (Producer/Editor in Chief) and Erik Nachtrieb (Producer/Editor) to bring life to a character in an experimental film expedition.

It has since gone on to become an award winning film, focusing on what he could capture in the first part of his expedition. Dimitri is now joined by his Russian Tatar wife Gulnara, (now his partner on this world circumnavigation), living the journey and capturing it on film..

"The Traveler - Part 1: The Missing Link" has become an award-winning film, capturing the first part of this eccentric French-American's expedition from Alaska to Mongolia.
