"This is head and shoulders above any other Gertrude movie or documentary. Knowing Gertrude Bell and her history helps explain how today's middle east is divided into the countries we see today. The documentary is well designed with films of the times and places with still pictures of Gertrude, family, friends, and acquaintances. We also get original music and even Joshua Bell to accompany the narration. When Gertrude's letters are read Tilda Swinton is the voice of Gertrude. For viewers in the U. S.
