At the Aldrich house, Nick is the phone with Matt, telling him that Steve is attempting to sedate Carolee. Steve explains for Nick how Cathy managed to trick everyone and snatch Stephanie. Cadman arrives and asks Nick about Cathy's mental state. When Nick realizes that Cathy might take Stephanie and disappear forever, he asks to help since he helped get the Aldriches into the mess. In California, Althea questions a hesitant Dave about what's wrong with Penny. As he explains that Penny became rebellious and angry after she fell from a horse last August, Penny listens outside the door. Before Dave can complete his explanation, Penny barges into the room and tells Althea that she's going blind. Dave assures Penny that when she sees Dr. Randall, the ophthalmologist, she'll realize that she's just jumping to conclusions. Althea attempts to give Penny hope by pointing out that there are many more doctors and many more opinions. But Penny is resigned to the fact that she has to start memorizing everything before she can't see again. A restless Carolee fights the sedative Steve gave her. They watch the televised appeal to Cathy that Cadman and Nick give on the local TV news. Cathy also sees the appeal, but bitterly replies to the set that her baby's name is Nicky, not Stephanie. As Carolee begins to cry, Steve reassures her that Nick's appeal will get through to Cathy, but Cathy declares she'll never call.
