"Not having had television when the original series aired I cannot comment on how it measures up but the first episode, from twenty years later, seemed forced and performances stilted. Maybe the actors need time to get into gear or maybe it is the writers that need time to write better material. The delivery wasn't funny but bordered on being amusing. Articles previewing the showed promise but it didn't come through in "Twenty Years io Life". Maybe future episodes will be better. Maybe I would not have liked the original series. The second half/episode "Dress to Impres..."

Roseanne mentions DJ's wife, Gina, who is serving in the military overseas. Since DJ's daughter is half black, this may allude to Gina being a girl from DJ's childhood. As a youngster, DJ Conner was apprehensive about kissing a girl in his class play, Gina, because she was black (Season 7, episode 9 "White Men Can't Kiss" from the original run).
