What defines the relationship between man and machine? Whether a petrol head or not, most would agree that a car becomes a chapter in their lives, and in doing so, takes on a personality. And for many people, the engine is the voice and soul of a car.

END OF AN ERA explores the intricacies of a dying breed - the V8 engine. One of the most iconic engines in automotive history; the V8 defines the pinnacle of combustion motoring. Presented, directed and produced by Tom Long, a classic car enthusiast and filmmaker; this film navigates the contentious issue of electric vs. combustion engines and what the future of car manufacturing holds.

As electric cars become an increasing reality and we move away from the combustion engine, will our relationship with cars change, and what will the future hold for petrol-heads?

Directors Statement I've always dreamt of bringing my two biggest passions together; filmmaking and cars.

The automotive world is changing dramatically as car manufacturers move towards electric vehicles. I believe we're at a pivotal point in history, in which the electric car will become the new normality. Whilst I support the move to a more ecological and efficient form of electric motoring, I feel that there is one issue that isn't being addressed - are cars going to lose their voice and soul without a combustion engine?

An engine is far more than just a means of power for a car. It's the voice and soul of a car that in turn gives it its personality. For me, the one primary driving factor on any car I purchase is the sound and feeling the engine creates.

One of the most iconic engines in automotive history is the V8. I've owned two V8 cars and know just how special an engine it is. END OF AN ERA pays homage to the V8 and my passion for it. It also allows me to pose the million dollar question on behalf of petrolheads around the world - "Will our relationship with cars change as we move to electric, and what does the future of classic cars hold?"
